Assessment of and Guidelines for Aftermarket Chassis Modifications with Regard to Roll and Yaw Stability

The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has established the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 126 that requires all vehicles sold in the USA weighing less than 4,536 kg (10,000 pounds) to include an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system as standard equipment after September 1st, 2011. FMVSS 126 ensures that a particular vehicle with ESC installed meets the lateral responsiveness and lateral stability criterion and has been found to be highly effective in preventing single-vehicle loss-of-control, run-off-the-road crashes, of which a significant portion are rollover crashes.  (Read more)

Motorcycle Safety

The overall goal of this research is to improve motorcycle design, to improve active and passive safety, and to reduce injuries when involved in a crash.  (Read more)

GOALI: Model-Based System Fault Diagnosis and Prognosis - Passive Robustness and Aging Prediction.

This project is part of a collaborative effort with Ohio State University and GM. (Read more)

Description of the Dynamic Behavior of Electric Traction Motors with Respect to Torque Variations

This research describes the dynamic behavior of electric traction motors with respect to torque variations and operating noise due to the discrete number of rotor/stator poles.  (Read more)

On-Road Assessment of Driving Performance of Aging Drivers

The average age of the U.S. population is growing. By 2025 it is expected that 25% of the U.S. population will be individuals over the age of 65. The two major missions of the larger research framework are a) Enable aging drivers to maximize independence as long as safely possible, b) Maximize solutions to assess the "total" driver, inside and outside of the vehicle, through interdisciplinary partnerships between universities, health care facilities, governmental agencies, and industry partnerships.  (Read more)

Enabling Dimensional Control system at CGEC

The virtual calculation in 3DCS (3-Dimension Control System) assisted by CAD software such as CATIA will help predict and optimize the overall manufacturing and assembly process by studying manufacturing process variations and assembly sequence and tolerances in a statistical manner. (Read more)

Vehicle-Infrastructure Integration Enabled Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) for Energy Management

The focus of this proposal is to create solutions to reduce US dependence on fossil fuels via anticipated increases in the number of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) for integration with a Vehicle-Infrastructure Integration (VII) system.  (Read more)
